Die-Cut Labels vs. Kiss-Cut Labels

Die-cut means that we are cutting through the label and paper backing, whereas kiss-cut means we are only cutting through the adhesive label part.

For more in-depth information about the cut options, please visit our Die-cut vs. Kiss-cut guide.

Die-Cut Bear Sticker | Stickers.com

Die-Cut

Die-cut means that we are cutting through both the vinyl label material and the paper backing. This cut type doesn't leave any material around the label. Another way to look at it is to think of it like a "cookie cutter." Your labels are all individually cut out to the contour of your design, so you have individually cut labels with no paper material around the design.

* Please note – Back Slit (Crack and Peel) is only available on our standard vinyl material option *

Kiss-Cut Bear Sticker | Stickers.com

Kiss-Cut

Kiss-cut means we are only cutting through the vinyl layer ("label material") and not cutting through the paper backing, leaving a paper material border around your label. When you choose a kiss-cut label, you will have extra material around your label for easy peeling.

Clear Label Artwork Specifications

Clear Sticker, Label, & Window Cling Guidelines:

  • Vector artwork is required: EPS and PDF

  • Please indicate the cut line clearly for all sticker and decal products

When submitting these files, make sure you convert all fonts to outlines or curves to ensure they print correctly and the fonts are not substituted.

File Tips

  • Set up size proportionate to the exact size product you are ordering
  • Convert all text to outlines
  • Only Allow for bleed if necessary
  • Never flatten/merge layers in a PSD file
  • Indicate the cut line clearly for all label products

Vector Art

Vector art consists of lines and curves that are mathematically defined objects. When viewing art in key line mode you can see the points or vectors when connecting your lines and curves. They can also be seen when using the pen tool or editing the points along a path. Vector art is ideal for type and drawn shapes because they can be enlarged to any size while maintaining crisp outlines and details without sacrificing quality. The distance between the vectors is calculated mathematically and is not dependent upon resolution.

Raster Art

Raster images consist of colored squares, called pixels. They are created by combining a series of various colored pixels. Digital photographs are made up of pixels. If you view a raster image at 200% or more you are able to see the individual pixels that make up the image. Raster images are dependent upon resolution so image enlargement is limited by the individual size at which the file was created. If a file is produced at a size that is larger than its resolution will allow, the quality will decrease. Printing a low resolution file will result in pixelation. Individual pixels are large enough to be easily discernable. Increasing the resolution will not solve this problem if there are not enough pixels to begin with. The program will add more pixels based upon the estimation of their location and will then assign their neighboring pixels's color value. This may cause an image to look muddy.

If submitting these files, please follow the guidelines below:

  • 100% scale (full size output) at 100 dpi
  • 50% scale at 200 dpi or higher
  • 25% scale at 300 dpi or higher
  • 10% scale at 600-1200 dpi recommended

Design Services

If you are not able to provide us with a print ready artwork, we do have a vectorizing/recreating service available. Most logos or images can be recreated for $70. Artwork design service discounts may apply.  Please contact a sales representative today for more details.

This service needs to be paid for in advance and we will be happy to give you a copy of the vector file once it is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are clear labels waterproof?

Yes, our clear labels are water-resistant. They protect against UV, water, and scratches; however, labels should always be applied to a clean, dry surface.

What is the difference between die-cut and kiss-cut labels?

Die-cut labels are made by cutting through both the label material and the backing. This cut type doesn't include a border or an edge. Another way to think about it is as a "cookie cutter." Kiss-cut labels are made by only cutting through the vinyl layer ("label material") and not the backing, leaving an edge or border around your label. Because of the extra material around the edges of your label, they are super easy to peel and you can choose a more intricate shaped design. Note: Once the same print design of kiss-cut and die-cut labels are applied, they look the same. For more information check out our blog on die-cut vs kiss-cut stickers.

What surfaces work the best for these labels?

We recommend smooth surfaces that are also non-porous. These would include glass, metal and plastic.

Do you offer any other clear products?

Yes, we also offer clear stickers, window clings, and front adhesive stickers.

What are my finishing options?

Our clear labels are available in a gloss lamination option.

Are your clear labels laminated?

Yes, our back adhesive clear labels come with a standard glossy lamination that protects against UV, water, and scratches.

What is the minimum and maximum width and height for this product?

The minimum dimensions are 2” x 2” and the maximum dimensions are 12” H x 12” W.

Do you have stock images I can use for my labels?

No, we do not have any stock images or numbers for printing. All of our clear labels are custom, meaning you can design them yourself, upload your own image, or connect with our graphic designers for assistance. Check out our artwork specifications for more information!

What surfaces or material do clear labels not stick to?

Clear labels do not stick well to dirty or textured surfaces. For the highest quality application, you will want to make sure the surface is clean, dry, and smooth. If you have dirt, dust or texture under your label, it will not stick well and will peel off of the surface you placed it on. Reason being, the adhesive material isn’t attaching to the surface as needed when there is dirt, dust, or texture on the surface you are applying it to. Check out our blog, “How to Install a Sticker” for more information.
