How to Use Wall Stickers: A Happy Little Guide
By: Naomi J. Myrick, Stickers.com Staff Writer
Let’s face it, wall stickers are a lot larger than laptop stickers. So naturally, applying them involves a few more steps.. They adhere best to smooth, non-porous surfaces, and you can use them decoratively or for functionality.
Today I’m going to tell you:
- How to easily install them
- What they’re made from
- Some common uses
Let’s hit the wall figuratively unless it's a sticker.
Chapter One: A step-by-step install
Step One: Gather Thy Tools
- Warm soapy water or light cleaning agent
- Towel
- Flat edged squeegee or credit card
- Masking tape
- Scissors
- Tape measure
Step Two: Clean the Flat Surface
Make sure the wall surface is clean. Use the light solvent or warm soapy water to remove any dust or debris. Then gently dry the wall.
Step Three: Tape
Use the masking tape to make a temporary hinge for the sticker.
Step Four: Measure and Level
Use a line of text to measure from and level off the sticker.
Step Five: Peel and Cut
Peel off the bottom half of the decal backing (die-cut).
Step Six: Apply the Decal to the Surface
Use a decal application squeegee to press and apply your sticker to the wall. To avoid air bubbles, use a back-and-forth pattern. If you do not have an application squeegee, then use a small flat object with a hard edge like a credit card.
Step Seven: Remove the Hinge
Simply, albeit gently, remove the masking tape hinge.
Step Eight: Peel
Peel and remove the top half of the backing.
Step Nine: Press and apply sticker
Use the application squeegee of your choice to apply the sticker to the wall surface in the same back and forth pattern as before.
Step Ten: Enjoy.
Well, duh!
Chapter Two: Large vinyl wall sticker material
We all know that wall paper is a gooey, smelly mess. Wall stickers, on the other hand, are not so. These beauties are printed on either a standard-tack or extreme-tack 3 millimeter vinyl adhesive material.
- Standard-tack adhesive: you can cleanly apply and remove these stickers up to one year after placement.
- Extreme-tack adhesive: Rated for outdoor use up to five years, this adhesive option is intended for permanent usage.
So, no mess, no smell and dare we say, rarely a headache.
Chapter Three: Wall art sticker Ideas
Artistry and functionality are two main uses for these stickers. Dress up the home office, kitchen or spare bedroom with your personal designs. You can also use them for subtle branding placement or directional purposes (restrooms this way, etc.). More cost-effective than some other signage options, wall stickers are a great choice for retail stores, boutiques and shops.
Another benefit of these vinyl stickers is that the standard-tack adhesive is quite removable. So, if you’re going to use these stickers for seasonal decor or Black Friday sales, no problem. Simply change out that wall sticker when needed. Easy.
Wall stickers are an overall excellent, inexpensive alternative to wall-paper. So begin your order today using our online design tool. Enjoy.
